The Association, which was formed nearly 40 years ago, is an organization of lawyers whose practices are focused on the courts of review.
Our regular monthly meetings are an excellent forum for exchanging information and ideas. Most luncheon meetings involve a presentation on some aspect of the law by a judge or a prominent attorney. Other meetings, which either include lunch or a late afternoon reception, are held to introduce attorneys to justices of the appellate court in each district of the state. Reviewing court judges attend all Association meetings, thus affording both the bench and bar an informal setting to discuss their views. Each year at least one meeting is held in every appellate district of the state.
Only members get to read our quality publications. Your membership affords you online access to a Guide to Illinois Civil Appellate Procedure, an easy-to-understand guide to prosecuting an appeal in the state courts. The Guide is available in the Clerk’s Office of all Illinois courts of review. Cases Pending, available on the Web site in PDF format and typically published five times a year, summarizes all appeals pending in the Supreme Court of Illinois. The Brief, the Association’s newsletter, alerts members to developments in the law and to Association activities. The Membership Directory is published annually and is also available online.
Members can act as judges for our annual Midwest Moot Court competition.
Only members can participate in the ALA Discussion Forum, a private discussion forum to discuss issues pertaining to appellate practice in Illinois. The list is a forum for ALA members to exchange ideas, offer advice, ask questions, and network with peers.
Print out, fill out, and mail back the completed Print out the online membership application with a check addressed to Appellate Lawyers Assocation for $25 plus the amount for your annual dues.
